SCDF Rescues Driver Using Hydraulic Equipment, Investigations Ongoing
A 73-year-old taxi driver was hospitalized after being trapped in his vehicle following an accident involving a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) vehicle on Tuesday morning in Pioneer Road North. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) responded to the accident at around 10:45 am and used hydraulic equipment to rescue the driver, who was trapped in his seat.
The police confirmed that the taxi driver was conscious when he was taken to National University Hospital. Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
According to ComfortDelGro’s group chief branding and communications officer, Tammy Tan, the taxi was driving straight with the traffic light in its favor when it was struck by an SAF vehicle executing a right turn from the opposite direction. No passengers were in the taxi at the time, and ComfortDelGro is in contact with the driver’s family to offer support.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed the incident, noting that no SAF personnel were injured, and stated that it is assisting with police investigations. Footage circulating on social media shows SAF personnel helping at the scene, where the blue taxi and SAF vehicle had collided under a flyover.
