SINGAPORE — A new survey conducted by YouGov, an international research and data analytics group, shows that a majority of Singaporeans are content with the government’s performance. Released on January 11, the survey indicates that 57% of respondents are satisfied with the overall state of affairs in the country, while 25% expressed dissatisfaction.

The survey revealed generational differences, with Baby Boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) being the most content, with 67% expressing satisfaction. In contrast, only half of Millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) shared similar views, making them the least satisfied group. Additionally, 27% of Generation X (born between 1965 and 1980) reported feeling unhappy with current conditions.

When it comes to the government’s performance, the trend was similar, with 57% of respondents reporting that they were very or mostly satisfied. However, 37% indicated dissatisfaction. Among Baby Boomers, two-thirds expressed positive sentiments toward the government’s handling of key issues.

The survey also highlighted areas where the government was perceived to be performing well, including public health and economic management, which more than half of respondents rated positively. Other areas such as environmental protection, climate change, equal opportunity, and immigration received moderate ratings.

However, concerns were raised about the cost of living and housing affordability, with 39% and 37% of respondents, respectively, saying these areas were poorly managed. “For the most part, areas where citizens want the government to focus more are aligned with the attributes that were rated most poorly,” noted YouGov.

A significant portion of Singaporeans (90%) believe more action is needed to address the rising cost of living, and 66% called for improvements in housing affordability. Additionally, 45% want greater attention on job opportunities, while 41% highlighted the need for enhanced public health measures. About a third (33%) expressed a desire for improvements in economic management.

The survey also found that concerns varied across generations. Generation X was the most vocal about the need to address the cost of living, while Millennials were primarily concerned about housing affordability.
