Gas and Electricity Tariffs Increasing for the Next Quarter
From July 1 to September 30, gas and electricity prices will see an uptick, according to SP Group’s announcement on June 28. The electricity tariff for consumers served by the grid operator will rise by 0.3% compared to the previous quarter.
For residential customers, this translates to a new electricity rate of 29.88 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) before goods and services tax (GST), up from the current rate of 29.79 cents. Notably, this new tariff is still one cent lower than the rate from the first quarter of 2024.
As a result of this adjustment, the average monthly electricity bill for families residing in four-room Housing Board flats will increase by 35 cents before GST, rising from S$118.03 to S$118.38.
SP Group attributed this hike to a rise in energy costs, which increased by an average of 0.09 cents per kWh. These costs, paid to power generation companies, are reviewed quarterly to account for fluctuations in fuel prices and power generation expenses.
Additionally, City Energy announced on June 28 that town gas tariffs would also see a rise of 0.30 cents per kWh during the same timeframe, again due to heightened costs.
This change means households will now pay 23.42 cents per kWh before GST, an increase from the previous rate of 23.12 cents. Including GST, the updated gas tariff will be 25.53 cents.
The revised gas rates have received approval from the Energy Market Authority.
