Singapore Pools Closer to BT Corporate Golf League Title

The teams in second to fifth place are separated by just five points, ensuring a tight finish to the competition

Singapore Pools is poised to clinch the title in The Business Times Corporate Golf League, leading by 11 points as the tournament nears its conclusion on May 9, 2024. After the fourth leg at Seletar Country Club, Singapore Pools has amassed a total of 341 points, significantly ahead of the second-place SPH Sultans of Swing.

The final leg, taking place at Laguna National Golf Resort Club’s Masters course, will see all four players from each team contributing to the scores, unlike the earlier rounds where only three players were counted. This structure keeps the competition thrilling, as the next four teams are closely packed within just five points of each other.

Singapore Pools captain Tay Boon Khai acknowledged the team’s strong position but emphasized the importance of not becoming complacent. “I have selected a good mix of players and we hope to maintain our top position,” he stated after the fourth leg on April 26.

Representing Singapore Pools in the final will be Kevin Pang, the tournament champion; Seah Chin Siong, the former CEO of Singapore Pools; and Francis Wan, who was the joint top scorer in the last leg with 37 points.

After a challenging start in the first leg at Sentosa Golf Club, where they scored only 48 points, Singapore Pools has rebounded impressively. They achieved the highest scores at the following two legs, showcasing their resilience and teamwork.

SPH Sultans of Swing, currently in second place, will look to media consultant Tim Pinnegar, a single-handicap golfer, to lead their challenge in the final leg. Meanwhile, Singapore Global Trust will count on Winston Oh, the winner of the individual event at Seletar, to boost their standing.

The competition is further intensified with teams such as the defending champions Team Boss, hole-in-one car sponsor Team Performance Motors Limited, and CLA Global TS also in the mix. In the social category, Olam Agri emerged victorious at Seletar, represented by Mostyn Gregg, Wilson Woo, Woon Yim Yee, and Andrew Romanis.

With the stakes high and the final leg approaching, all eyes will be on Singapore Pools as they aim for victory in this prestigious tournament.
