Gilbert Ng takes the helm to steer the bank’s global banking strategy and franchise growth
HSBC has announced the appointment of Gilbert Ng as the new head of global banking for Singapore, effective May 2, 2024. Ng, who previously served as the head of corporate banking at Citigroup, takes over from Priya Kini, who has transitioned to lead Singapore’s commercial banking division at HSBC.
In his new position, Ng will be responsible for driving the bank’s global banking strategy and franchise growth. His role includes supporting HSBC’s advisory, financing, and transaction banking solutions for major clients in Singapore. He will report functionally to Christina Ma, the head of global banking for the Asia-Pacific region, and at the country level to Wong Kee Joo, the chief executive officer of HSBC Singapore.
Ng brings over 17 years of experience from Citigroup, where he honed his expertise in corporate finance and risk management. He also possesses a robust client network that encompasses local and multinational corporations, public sector entities, and financial institutions in Singapore.
Wong praised Ng’s proven ability to build a resilient client coverage business, stating that his extensive market knowledge will be pivotal in accelerating HSBC’s growth in Singapore. As global businesses increasingly establish regional headquarters and treasury centers in Singapore, Wong emphasized the importance of leveraging Ng’s insights to support clients in their expansion efforts.
