QR code immigration clearance for travellers in cars to begin on Mar 19

ICA rolls out a faster, tech-driven approach to streamline immigration at land checkpoints.

From March 19, travellers in cars crossing Singapore’s Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints can use QR codes for immigration clearance, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). This new system aims to speed up the process, allowing individual travellers or groups of up to 10 people in the same vehicle to clear immigration efficiently.

To use the QR code system, travellers must download the MyICA mobile app and input their passport details. Singapore residents can automatically populate their information through Singpass or scan their passport’s machine-readable zone.

The QR code initiative, expected to reduce waiting times by over 30%, is part of ICA’s broader move toward automation, with future plans to introduce biometric clearance lanes by 2026 at Tuas Checkpoint and 2028 at Woodlands Checkpoint. While the QR code system is being rolled out, traditional passport clearance will remain an option for travellers.
