Singaporeans encouraged to verify their voting eligibility ahead of potential early elections.
Singapore’s Elections Department (ELD) has updated the voter rolls, incorporating names of all eligible voters as of June 1, 2024. Public inspection of these rolls will take place from June 19 to July 2, 2024. This update comes amidst speculation that the next general election, which must occur by November 2025, could be called as soon as September.
In a statement on June 18, the ELD informed citizens that they could check their registration details through the “Voter Services” section on the ELD website or the “My Profile” feature on the Singpass mobile app. Voters are encouraged to verify their information, and if discrepancies are found, they can file a claim during the inspection period.
Eligibility to vote in Singapore requires that an individual be a citizen aged 21 and above, residing at a Singapore address or possessing a local contact address, and not disqualified under any applicable laws.
The ELD provides multiple avenues for claims and objections to be submitted, including online options and in-person submissions at various community clubs, ServiceSG centres, and Singapore’s overseas missions. A list of claims will be available for public inspection from July 13 to July 20.
For those whose names have been removed from the voter rolls due to non-participation in previous elections, applications to restore their names can also be made via the ELD’s website. The department has urged individuals to apply early, as names cannot be restored after the writ for an election is issued.
