New platform aims to boost sustainable aviation efforts, launching in early 2025
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) are collaborating to develop a globally recognised Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) registry, aiming to accelerate the adoption of sustainable fuels in aviation. The registry is scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2025.
This platform will track and record emissions reductions from SAF use, aligning with international sustainability standards such as the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation. It will also feature an interoperable accounting system to accurately account for the type and quantity of SAF purchased, generating SAF credits for airlines and organisations.
The registry is a significant step forward for Singapore’s Sustainable Air Hub Blueprint, which mandates the use of SAF for flights departing from Singapore starting in 2026. According to Han Kok Juan, director-general of CAAS, the registry will be crucial in achieving the nation’s sustainable aviation targets.
This collaboration is part of an ongoing memorandum of understanding (MOU) between CAAS and IATA, designed to strengthen aviation growth and sustainability in the Asia-Pacific region.
