Bedok to Launch Assisted-Living HDB Flats for Seniors in December

New Initiative Aims to Support Independent Aging for the Elderly Community

In December, approximately 250 community care apartment units will be available for sale in Bedok, aimed at helping Singaporean seniors age independently. This initiative is part of the Chai Chee Green Build-To-Order (BTO) project, which includes a total of 1,234 units designed with senior-friendly features.

The community care apartments integrate accessible housing with social activities and care services, marking the third such project in Singapore, following similar launches in Bukit Batok in 2021 and Queensway in 2022. The Ministry of National Development (MND), the Ministry of Health (MOH), and the Housing and Development Board (HDB) announced that, if successful, they plan to increase the supply of community care apartments, with a target of up to 30 locations across Singapore by 2030.

The Chai Chee Green BTO project will offer three-room, four-room, and five-room flats to promote intergenerational bonding and community interaction, with wait times ranging from three years and three months to three years and seven months. Each assisted-living flat is designed to be about 32 square meters, featuring senior-friendly fittings such as grab bars, slip-resistant bathroom flooring, and wide main doors for wheelchair access.

The flats will have open layouts allowing customization with sliding partitions, and will include built-in wardrobes, cabinets, and fully equipped kitchens to facilitate a quick move-in with minimal renovations. Residents will subscribe to a basic service package that provides essential services, including 24-hour emergency monitoring and basic health checks. Additional services, like daycare and meal preparation, will be available at extra costs.

The total unit cost encompasses the price of the flat and the service package. While the flat must be paid for upfront, residents can choose from two payment plans for the service package: either S$175 to S$185 per month with an upfront security deposit or S$6,300 to S$7,000 for a three-year payment.

Seniors will also have easy access to community amenities, including nearby eating houses and resident network centers, along with convenient bus services and proximity to MRT stations like Bedok North, Bedok, and Kembangan.

To apply for a community care apartment, both applicants and their spouses must be at least 65 years old, with lease options ranging from 15 to 35 years. Interested individuals can book an appointment to visit the physical exhibition at the HDB Hub Atrium, which showcases 3D models and provides detailed information about the project and service packages. For inquiries, the public can contact the HDB sales and resale customer service line.
