Singapore Sees Decline in Local Covid-19 Cases, But Hospitalisations Rise

New Cases Decline to 7,639, Yet Hospitalisation Numbers Continue to Climb

On Sunday, February 6, Singapore reported a decrease in locally transmitted Covid-19 cases, which dropped to 7,639 from 10,208 the previous day. Despite this decline, hospitalisations rose to 1,074, an increase of six from Saturday’s 1,068 cases. This marks the second consecutive day that the number of hospitalised patients has exceeded 1,000.

There were 1,518 new local cases identified through PCR tests, while an additional 6,121 cases were detected via antigen rapid tests (ART), mostly indicating mild or no symptoms. Among those hospitalised, 92 required oxygen support, and 21 were in the intensive care unit.

The country also reported 113 new imported cases, with 99 identified through PCR tests and 14 through ART. Unfortunately, there were three more deaths, up from the two reported on Saturday.

The weekly Covid-19 infection growth rate rose to 1.49, indicating an increase in new weekly cases compared to the previous week. As of Sunday, Singapore has recorded 397,823 cases and 871 deaths in total.

In terms of vaccination, 92% of eligible individuals have completed their full regimen, and 60% have received a booster shot.
