Ninth Convict in S$3 Billion Money Laundering Case Deported to the UK

Wang Dehai Faces Deportation After Serving Jail Time for Money Laundering Charges

Wang Dehai, the final convict among ten foreigners involved in Singapore’s largest money laundering case, was deported to the UK on July 6, 2024, after serving approximately 11 months of his 16-month sentence. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) confirmed Wang’s deportation, noting he is barred from re-entering Singapore.

Wang, originally from China and holding Cypriot nationality, had pleaded guilty to one charge of money laundering, agreeing to forfeit over S$49 million in assets to the state. His sentence was backdated to his arrest date on August 15, 2023.

Following his departure, nine of the ten convicts involved in this high-profile case have now been deported. The first two to be deported were Su Wenqiang and Wang Baosen, sent to Cambodia on May 6 after serving about 8.5 months of their 13-month sentences. Subsequent deportations included Su Baolin and Su Haijin, also sent to Cambodia, while Vang Shuiming was deported to Japan.

The remaining convicts, Chen Qingyuan, Zhang Ruijin, and Lin Baoying, were also sent to Cambodia after serving approximately 10 months of their 15-month sentences. This leaves Su Jianfeng, who received a 17-month sentence, as the only remaining convict still in Singapore.

The group was arrested in August 2023 during extensive police raids that uncovered over S$3 billion in seized assets. In addition to the ten convicted individuals, another 17 people connected to the investigation have fled the country and remain at large.

The ICA stated that convicts are deported on the earliest available flights upon completing their sentences, escorted directly from prison to the airport without the chance to collect personal belongings. Their technology at immigration checkpoints ensures that deported individuals cannot re-enter Singapore using different identities.
