Taiwanese Singer WeiBird Set to Perform in Singapore After Two-Year Delay Due to COVID-19

Concert at Capitol Theatre Marks Long-Awaited Return for the Star Behind “Red Scarf”

The long wait is over for fans of Taiwanese singer WeiBird, who can finally leave his confinement and take the stage after more than two years of COVID-19 restrictions. His much-anticipated concert in Singapore has been in the works for two years, facing multiple postponements due to the global pandemic.

Originally scheduled for March 2020, WeiBird’s concert was delayed to August 2020, then rescheduled for March 2021, followed by another postponement to February 2022, before finally settling on July 22 this year. He will perform at the Capitol Theatre, with tickets for both nights sold out.

The pandemic has significantly affected his concert plans in Singapore and Malaysia. In an interview with AsiaOne, WeiBird reflected on the valuable lessons learned during these challenging times. “I realized we must frequently develop different talents, so that when we come across unexpected obstacles—not just COVID-19—we’ll be able to find new work to do,” he shared.

Despite being unable to travel for live performances, WeiBird maintained his creative spirit, continuing to write new songs. Now, with restrictions eased, he is excited about his visit and is eager to indulge in local culinary delights. “How could I possibly miss out on chilli crab, Hainanese chicken rice, and bak kut teh?” he remarked, recalling his last concert visit to Singapore in 2017.

Looking ahead, WeiBird expressed his passion for music composition. “When it comes to music, my ultimate dream and ambition is to keep working on music for the rest of my life,” he stated. “I don’t have to be a singer performing on a stage or a star. Nothing can stop me when it comes to writing music, so I hope to keep composing without any worries.”

In addition to his upcoming concerts, WeiBird plans to release a new album and perform at the Taipei Arena in September. He will also take the stage alongside other notable artists, including Stefanie Sun, Tanya Chua, Kelly Chen, Namewee, Show Lo, Yoga Lin, F.I.R., and Oaeen, at the One Love Asia Festival on October 22 and 23 at the Bayfront Event Space. Each performer will present a full 40-minute set with a complete band and cutting-edge production. Ticket sales for this event will begin on July 25 at 11 a.m. via AllAccess-Asia.com and SISTIC.com.sg.
