Tencent Cloud Unveils EdgeOne: A Comprehensive Solution for Enhanced Network Performance and Security

Introducing an Integrated Platform to Address Growing Digitalization Needs Across Industries

SINGAPORE, July 29, 2022 — As enterprises rapidly embrace digitalization, new edge computing applications are emerging across various sectors. Leveraging over 20 years of technology expertise, Tencent Cloud has officially launched Tencent Cloud EdgeOne, a comprehensive one-stop platform that merges the company’s extensive experience in network performance and security to provide global enterprises with high efficiency and stability.

Today, notable executives, including Eric Cheng (General Manager of Tencent Security), Lex Liu (General Manager of Wesing), Tommy Li (Vice President of Tencent Cloud), Herman Zhao (Assistant General Manager of Regional Publishing), Baal Feng (General Manager of Global DevOps at Tencent Games), and Ligle Lin (Vice General Manager of International Products at Tencent Cloud), gathered to announce the launch of Tencent Cloud EdgeOne.

In response to the global surge in short-video and live streaming services, Tencent Cloud launched the RT-ONE™ network in 2021, laying the groundwork for a robust audio and video communication infrastructure. To further enhance cybersecurity for corporate clients, Tencent Cloud has now integrated its advanced security technologies into the RT-ONE™ network, resulting in an upgraded platform that offers cutting-edge security features alongside high-speed network capabilities.

Tencent Cloud EdgeOne benefits from over 2,800 global acceleration nodes in more than 70 countries, providing users with exceptional network performance while ensuring robust security. Key features include:

Proximity to Users: Services are relocated to edge nodes near end-users, offering comprehensive protection across network layers (layer-3, layer-4, layer-7) and acceleration services. A unified dashboard minimizes configuration complexity and saves time for users.
Dedicated Interconnections: The platform facilitates dedicated interconnections to accelerate traffic between Tencent Cloud EdgeOne and the Origin Server, along with integrated DNS capabilities that enhance DNS resolution stability and performance, significantly reducing data latency.
Advanced Security Integration: With over two decades of security expertise, Tencent Cloud incorporates features like DDoS protection (Anti-DDoS), web application firewalls, bot management, behavior analysis, and adaptive rate-limiting. These security measures are deployed on edge nodes to identify and mitigate malicious traffic before it reaches application services.
Poshu Yeung, Senior Vice President of Tencent Cloud International, remarked, “With advancements in technologies such as cloud computing, big data, AI, blockchain, Web3, and IoT, digital transformation has become essential for enterprises. Leveraging our security experience serving 1 billion users, we are eager to demonstrate how Tencent Cloud EdgeOne can provide users with a high-quality, reliable network experience while safeguarding their security.”

Tommy Li, Vice President of Tencent Cloud, added, “Tencent Cloud EdgeOne embodies the acronym ACROSS: Advanced technology, exclusive Connectivity, Real-time service, Optimization of data, Smart application, and Security protection. As enterprises navigate increasing digitalization, they face common challenges like network latency and security threats. Our platform addresses these issues by delivering lower latency and integrated security features, ensuring reliable service.”

Applications Across Industries:
Global businesses in sectors including commerce, retail, finance, media, gaming, and audio-visual content can leverage Tencent Cloud EdgeOne. A notable case is a prominent Chinese video-on-demand platform that improved user experience and addressed challenges such as content piracy and bot-related issues, achieving a 40% reduction in video loading times and a 50% decrease in resource response delays.

Additionally, an online e-commerce platform utilized Tencent Cloud EdgeOne to defend against Challenge Collapsar (CC) attacks, managing peak traffic exceeding 9 million queries per second (QPS) while ensuring business continuity.

During the launch of a new game by a leading global publisher, Tencent Cloud EdgeOne showcased its capabilities by employing a distributed preloading strategy and offering DDoS protection, web security, and bot behavior interception. This enabled the game to achieve a 100% download success rate without business interruptions.

Eric Cheng, General Manager of Tencent Security, stated, “At Tencent Cloud, our goal is to enhance user access efficiency while securing businesses throughout their digital transformation journey. With Tencent Cloud EdgeOne, we now offer a unified, fast, reliable, and secure platform capable of early detection and defense against attacks, mitigating malicious traffic before it reaches our data centers.”

Baal Feng, General Manager of Global DevOps at Tencent Games, emphasized the platform’s potential: “The global gaming market is rapidly expanding, presenting significant opportunities and challenges. Tencent Cloud EdgeOne meets the high demands for download speed and user experience while maintaining security.”

In an era of rapid global digitalization, Tencent Cloud remains committed to delivering high-level security capabilities, providing global partners with reliable, fast, and secure edge-integrated services to support their digital transformation journeys.
