Europe Experiences Record-Breaking Warmth This January

Unseasonably High Temperatures Mark the Start of the Year Across the Continent

Europe is experiencing an extraordinary warmth this January, with several countries recording unprecedented high temperatures. On New Year’s Day, at least seven nations, including Belarus, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Poland, reported their warmest January days ever, typically associated with spring-like weather.

In Vysokaje, Belarus, temperatures soared to a remarkable 16.4°C, surpassing the previous record for January by an impressive 4.5°C. Meanwhile, in Poland’s village of Korbielów, temperatures peaked at 19°C, a stark contrast to the average January temperature of around 1°C. The Czech Republic’s Javorník also experienced a significant anomaly, with temperatures reaching 19.6°C, which is 16.6°C above the usual average of 3°C for this time of year.
