Beware of Posting Air Tickets and Passports Online, Privacy Expert Warns

TikTok Influencer Exposes How Easy It Is to Steal Personal Information from Travel Photos

Vacations often start with a rush to share the excitement, and for many, that means posting photos of air tickets and passports on social media. However, this seemingly harmless activity could expose personal details and put your privacy at risk, warns TikTok influencer and performance coach Jason Ho.
In a TikTok video uploaded on Sunday (May 29), Jason, who has since garnered over 235,000 views and 260 comments, demonstrated how easy it is for someone to access sensitive personal information simply by posting a short clip of travel documents. In his example, an influencer shared a brief part of her air ticket and passport, and within moments, Jason was able to retrieve her full name, mobile number, and the last four digits of her credit card.
Jason explained how he was able to log into the influencer’s Singapore Airlines booking management page using just the last name and e-ticket number visible in the post. From there, he had the ability to change or cancel her flight if he wished. He reassured viewers that his actions were purely for educational purposes, and throughout the video, he ensured the influencer’s sensitive information was censored.
“I just want to show you how easy it is. If you’re going to take a picture of your air ticket, cover the e-ticket number,” Jason advised. He even reached out to the influencer to warn her about the potential risks of posting such information.
While many viewers appreciated the awareness, some criticized Jason for exposing the influencer’s mistake publicly. “People will do anything for attention,” one user commented, while others suggested that airlines should take greater responsibility in protecting passenger privacy.
Jason, who describes himself as a “hacker” focused on “hacking performance,” emphasized the importance of being cautious with personal information shared online. The incident serves as a timely reminder that the thrill of sharing travel moments can come at the cost of privacy if not done carefully.
