Revved-up engines and flashy cars take center stage, but not without raising a few eyebrows
The usual roar of race cars at a professional event seemed to echo through the Kallang Decathlon carpark recently, as car enthusiasts gathered for an impromptu meetup that captured attention both online and on-site.
In a TikTok video shared on Saturday (April 30), drivers revved their engines while spectators eagerly recorded the action. The short 25-second clip, which has since gone viral with over 140,000 views, shows the crowd admiring decked-out cars, including a Bumblebee-inspired Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X and a dark grey Nissan GT-R, which put on a small show of its own by shooting blue flames from its exhaust.
However, the star of the evening appeared to be a candy pink Lamborghini, as the supercar drew a massive crowd that eagerly snapped pictures and videos of the sleek vehicle.
Surprisingly, three traffic police officers were also spotted at the event, though their exact reason for attending remains unclear. AsiaOne has reached out to authorities for more information.
While some netizens were thrilled by the spectacle, not everyone shared the enthusiasm. One commenter expressed surprise that car meetups, which were popular in the 90s, still existed today. Another took a jab at the event, suggesting that people overseas would view it as child’s play. In a more humorous tone, one user joked about bringing marshmallows to roast over the exhaust flames.
The legality of some of the highly modified cars was questioned in the comments, though someone cheekily suggested they might have been confiscated vehicles.
Regardless of the mixed reactions, the meetup certainly revved up interest, both online and among car lovers lucky enough to witness the show.
