As Singapore marks its 59th year of independence, we reflect on remarkable achievements that have taken place during National Day celebrations.

On August 9, 2023, a record was set as the largest group to traverse the Coast-to-Coast Trail together. The Tampines Central Community Sports Network (CSN) led a hike covering over 40 kilometers, from Jurong Lake to Coney Island. Out of 51 participants, 43 completed the trail, with ages ranging from 10 to 60 years.

Earlier, on July 28, 2023, West Grove Primary School made a significant contribution by assembling the largest map of Singapore made entirely from coins, using 6,230 coins. This map measured 1.8m by 2.9m and the coins were later donated to the Children’s Cancer Foundation.

To honor the 57th National Day on August 5, 2022, Sport Singapore collaborated with preschools like PCF Sparkletots and My First Skool to create the largest collection of National Day-themed kampung games. A total of 57 games were selected and made available online, with some played by over 1,000 preschool children at the National Stadium.

Looking back to August 8, 2018, the largest mass dance to the NDP theme song Reach Out for the Skies was performed, involving 831 students, staff, and parents from Northoaks Primary School, all dancing with red and white ribbons.

On the same day, the largest National Day dikir barat performance took place at Bartley Secondary School, where 813 participants showcased their unique rendition of this traditional Malay choral style, integrating the 2002 NDP song We Will Get There.

Lastly, on July 28, 2018, a delightful gathering of 53 dog breeds took place at Bougainvillea Park, celebrating Singapore’s 53rd birthday and the Year of the Dog.
