Mediacorp Confirms Dehydration and Low Blood Sugar as Causes, Yoo Recuperating
CNA presenter Julie Yoo fainted during a live broadcast of Asia Tonight on Wednesday, November 9, while covering the United Nations-led COP27 climate talks in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Yoo suddenly collapsed while presenting, prompting her co-host Jack Board to rush to her aid.
Mediacorp later released a statement explaining that Yoo had been feeling unwell due to dehydration and low blood sugar. She has since sought medical assistance and is reported to be “feeling better.” The broadcasting company confirmed that Yoo is currently resting and will return to air on Thursday.
A video of the incident was shared on Reddit, where concerned netizens speculated that the hot environment and standing for long periods may have contributed to Yoo’s condition. One commenter noted, “Probably because she has been standing up almost all day in a hot environment and I think she’s wearing heels too. Hope they let her rest.”
Yoo’s sudden collapse has drawn attention to the challenges of working in physically demanding conditions, particularly during live broadcasts in harsh climates.
