Innovative Capsule Collection Transforms Retired Aircraft Elements into Elegant Home Décor
SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – July 20, 2022 – Upcycling reaches new heights with Commune’s latest offering, “The Continental,” a capsule collection developed in collaboration with Singapore Airlines (SIA) as part of their Upcycling Project. This initiative seeks to reimagine aviation aesthetics, bringing the charm of SIA’s iconic designs into the comfort of home.
“The Continental” collection features redesigned products crafted from retired SIA aircraft components, including cabin windows and in-flight carts. With sustainability as a guiding principle, the upcycling process retains the essence of SIA’s original products while refreshing them with new functionalities, adding both timeless appeal and historical significance.
The collection comprises three exquisite products:
The Continental Bar Cart (Le Petite & Le Grande)
This collection includes 50 exclusive original in-flight galley carts, which once served warm meals and beverages on SIA flights. Each cart has been rejuvenated with a sleek black powder-coated finish and elegant Walnut veneer storage shelves, complemented by a premium leather utility pouch. Each cart is part of a limited run and is adorned with a unique edition tag displaying its registration number (e.g., N°1/50), blending elegance with its industrial-grade origins. The cart is available in two sizes: Le Petite and Le Grande.
The Continental Wall Valet
This functional piece incorporates an upcycled window frame from SIA’s retired aircraft fuselage. The valet features a leveled top panel shaped like aircraft wings and includes a premium tan leather utility pouch, a magnetic key catch, and a letter organizer. The design is intended to evoke the serenity experienced while gazing out of an airplane window into the expansive sky.
