A 100 MW energy storage project in Hualien to support Taiwan’s grid stability by mid-2023.
Fluence Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLNC) and Rich Electric, a Taiwanese power conversion specialist, have announced a collaboration to implement Taiwan’s first 100 MW battery energy storage system in Hualien. Scheduled for completion by mid-2023, the project will aid Taipower’s automatic frequency control (AFC) services, which play a key role in maintaining grid stability.
This partnership is a major step in Taiwan’s broader goal of achieving 1,000 MW in energy storage capacity by 2025. Rich Electric’s Chairman, Eric Chen, emphasized the company’s focus on integrating power systems to provide stable energy. Fluence SVP Jan Teichmann noted that this initiative aligns with Taiwan’s growing momentum toward a resilient, renewable energy grid.
With this project, Fluence continues to lead in the global energy storage sector, having already deployed over 4.8 GW of systems worldwide. Fluence’s recent projects in Taiwan include the Taoyuan Longtan 60 MW energy storage system, further solidifying its presence in the region.
