Global Availability Limited to Mate 50 Pro Amid Adjustments for Sanctions
The Huawei Mate 50 Pro smartphone is set to make its international debut after a successful run in China. According to GSMArena, Huawei recently held a media briefing for select international publications ahead of the global launch scheduled for September 28, 2022.
In this launch, Huawei confirmed that only the Mate 50 Pro will be available internationally, while the rest of the Mate 50 series will not be released outside of China.
The pricing for the Mate 50 Pro is as follows: the Silver or Black model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will retail for €1,299 (approximately $1,794.46), while the Leather Orange variant with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage will cost €1,399 (about $1,932.61).
Specifications and Adjustments
The global version of the Mate 50 Pro has undergone several modifications to comply with existing US sanctions. Notably, it will feature a 4G version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, in contrast to the standard 5G variant found in the Chinese model. Additionally, the international version will utilize Kunlun Glass, sourced from China, instead of the US-developed Corning Gorilla Glass for its 6.74-inch OLED display. Another significant change is the absence of satellite connectivity, which is present in the Chinese model.
According to the official specifications, the global variant will run on EMUI 13, based on an open-source version of Android (specific version undisclosed), rather than the HarmonyOS 3.0 used in its Chinese counterpart. This adjustment implies that the Mate 50 Pro is unlikely to include the Google Play Store or any Google Mobile Services, consistent with Huawei’s recent mobile releases.
Despite these alterations, the Mate 50 Pro boasts flagship-level features and specifications, positioning it as a competitive option in the international smartphone market.
