Suspect Allegedly Stole $50 in Coins; Construction Worker Also Sentenced for Separate Theft
A 52-year-old man will be charged today with housebreaking and theft after allegedly breaking into a Yishun HDB flat and stealing around $50 in coins. The incident occurred on February 28, with police identifying the suspect through ground inquiries and security cameras, leading to his arrest on March 21. Under Section 451 of the Penal Code, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
In a separate case, a Vietnamese construction worker, Dinh Van Hai, was sentenced to three months in jail for breaking into a bakery in Ang Mo Kio MRT station on January 12. Wearing plastic bags over his hands to avoid leaving fingerprints, he stole bread and cash due to financial difficulties.
