Manufacturing Business Leaders Recognized with National Honors for Contributions to Singapore

Recognition Acknowledges Impact on Economic Growth and Investment Attraction

Three prominent business leaders from Singapore’s manufacturing sector were awarded national honors for their significant contributions to the country’s economy, as announced by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) on June 13.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam awarded the Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore) to Gary Dickerson, president and CEO of Applied Materials, and Marc Casper, chairman, president, and CEO of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Manish Bhatia, executive vice-president for global operations at Micron Technology, received the Public Service Medal (Friends of Singapore).

EDB chairman Png Cheong Boon highlighted that Dickerson, Casper, and Bhatia have substantially expanded their companies’ operations in Singapore, contributing to the local ecosystem by creating quality jobs and business opportunities. He noted that Applied Materials, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Micron Technology are pivotal players in Singapore’s manufacturing landscape, enhancing the country’s semiconductor and healthcare sectors and bolstering its appeal as an investment destination.

The Public Service Star award, established by the EDB in 1998, honors senior business executives for their exceptional contributions to Singapore’s economic growth. Meanwhile, the Public Service Medal acknowledges individuals who have made commendable public service contributions to the nation. Since 1998, 49 senior executives have received the Public Service Star, with another 49 being awarded the Public Service Medal.
