MOH Permanent Secretary Chan Yeng Kit Appointed as New CEO of SPH Media

Chan Yeng Kit to Succeed Teo Lay Lim from July 15

Chan Yeng Kit, Permanent Secretary for Health, will assume the role of CEO of SPH Media starting July 15, 2024, replacing Teo Lay Lim, who is retiring after over two years in the position. Chan, 59, brings significant experience from his extensive career in the public, labor, and private sectors, including his tenure as chairman of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).

SPH Media, which publishes key titles like The Business Times, The Straits Times, and Lianhe Zaobao, announced Chan’s appointment to its board of directors on March 15, 2024. His leadership is expected to continue the digital transformation initiatives that were launched under Teo Lay Lim’s tenure. Chan led efforts to coordinate Covid-19 safe management measures during the pandemic and received the Meritorious Service Medal in 2022 for his contributions.

As SPH Media transitions, Khaw Boon Wan, SPH Media Trust chairman, praised Teo for laying a solid foundation for the company’s growth, particularly in digital integration and audience engagement. Teo, who championed a mobile-first strategy and oversaw initiatives like the Tamil Murasu mobile app, expressed confidence in Chan’s leadership as SPH Media continues its transformation.

Lai Wei Lin will take over as the new Permanent Secretary for Health from July 15, 2024, succeeding Chan.
