In July, seniors from Singapore’s Pioneer and Merdeka Generations will receive MediSave top-ups ranging between S$200 and S$1,100, aimed at easing healthcare costs. These top-ups can be used for MediShield Life, CareShield Life, and other MediSave-approved insurance plans and treatments, according to a joint statement from the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Health on June 9.

The government is allocating S$254 million for these top-ups, slightly down from last year’s S$270 million. For the Pioneer Generation, the annual top-up amount ranges from S$250 to S$900 based on age, and an additional S$50 to S$200 will be provided to those aged 84 and older who have pre-existing conditions.

The Merdeka Generation, seniors born between 1950 and 1959, will receive S$200 in top-ups this year, the final installment of a five-year plan introduced in 2019. Combined, the Pioneer and Merdeka Generation top-ups will benefit about 950,000 seniors.

Eligible seniors will be notified of their top-up amounts by June 20 through Singpass or SMS. The ministries caution that no requests for personal information will be made, and no notifications will be sent via messaging apps like WhatsApp.

This initiative complements the GST Voucher Scheme, which provides additional MediSave top-ups for Singaporeans aged 65 and above.
