PM Lee Hsien Loong Tests Positive for Covid-19 Again, Experiences Rebound Symptoms

Prime Minister Assured of Well-Being, Self-Isolation Advised by Doctors

Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, has tested positive for Covid-19 for the second time, shortly after recovering from his initial infection. In a Facebook post on June 1, 2023, PM Lee reported that he feels fine but has been advised by his doctors to self-isolate until he receives a negative result on his Antigen Rapid Test (ART).

His doctors indicated that this situation is a post-Covid rebound, a phenomenon that occurs in approximately 5 to 10 percent of cases. While still considered infectious, PM Lee noted that the risk of transmission is lower compared to the first infection.

Regrettably, the Prime Minister had to cancel his attendance at the consecration ceremony of Sri Thendayuthapani Temple, an event he had looked forward to. He expressed his apologies to the event’s organizers and attendees, wishing them a successful ceremony and celebration.

PM Lee, who is 71 years old, had initially tested positive for Covid-19 just days earlier, on the preceding Monday.
