Students and Staff from XCL World Academy Among Those Affected in Early Morning Accident
A school bus carrying students to XCL World Academy overturned on the Central Expressway slip road towards Seletar West Link at around 8:10 AM on Monday, February 7. According to reports from Shin Min Daily News, the minibus lost control, causing it to flip onto its side, with shattered windows and a dented roof. Papers and debris were scattered across the road.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force responded promptly, taking two individuals to Sengkang General Hospital, while another seven were transported to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). The victims, aged between six and 60, were all conscious at the time of the incident. It is believed that the seven hospitalized at KKH were students from the school, while the other two were the female driver and a bus attendant.
Eyewitnesses, including 42-year-old Mr. Zhang, reported that the driver and students suffered minor cuts and bruises to their heads, faces, and limbs. He noted that the children appeared “trembling with fear” after the incident. Passers-by assisted by helping the students out of the bus and guiding them to safety. Some even took quick action to prevent a potential fire by placing toilet paper and a military uniform over the oil leaking from the bus.
The Land Transport Authority confirmed that the Seletar West Link exit was closed temporarily for emergency response and was reopened about 30 minutes later. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
