Singapore Food Agency Investigates Rat Incident in Tangs Market

Social Media Video of Rat Sparks Outcry

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced Monday (Nov 27) that it has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a rat lying on a food tray next to a bowl of noodles in Tangs Market. In the video, the rat’s sudden movement prompted shocked reactions from patrons, with several exclaiming, “Oh my God!” and others screaming. The timing of the video recording remains unclear.

SFA Stresses Hygiene Responsibility

In response to AsiaOne’s inquiries, an SFA spokesperson emphasized the importance of shared food safety responsibilities. While regulatory measures are enforced by the SFA, the agency noted that food operators must also uphold high standards in hygiene and food preparation practices. SFA underscored that it would take strict enforcement actions against any operator found in violation of hygiene standards.

Further Investigation Underway

AsiaOne has reached out to Fei Siong Group, the operator of Tangs Market, for further comment as investigations continue. The incident has raised public concern over hygiene in food establishments, with SFA taking steps to address food safety in such spaces.
