Hamas attack impacts travel plans for Singaporean tourists to Israel
Following the violent escalation between Israel and Hamas, many Singaporeans have delayed or cancelled their travel plans to Israel. The conflict has already claimed hundreds of lives, prompting Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to issue a travel advisory urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the region.
Reverend Dr. Aaron Tay from Bedok Methodist Church has postponed a 16-day trip for his group of 56 parishioners. Similarly, other tourists, like Dexter and Rosemary Chia, await further information from their tour agencies, unsure if their trips will proceed as planned.
The situation remains volatile, with Palestinian militants launching thousands of rockets into Israeli towns, leading to a state of war declaration by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The conflict, which began on October 7, has affected not only travel plans but also the overall security landscape in Israel.
Tour operators, including Israel-based Sar-El Tours, are working to modify itineraries to ensure the safety of travelers. Some groups have already withdrawn from planned tours, though a few travelers remain hopeful that the situation may improve in the coming months.
The Singapore government advises travelers to monitor developments closely and avoid areas with public disturbances. Comprehensive travel and medical insurance are strongly recommended for those still considering travel to Israel.
