Post-Peak Season Slows Tourism Growth for Second Month
Singapore recorded 1.13 million international visitors in September, a decline from the 1.31 million in August, according to the Singapore Tourism Board. While the figure reflects a seasonal downturn, it is still a notable 44.6% increase compared to September 2022, when 782,215 visitors were recorded.
The decrease follows the typical pattern seen in previous years where tourism dips after the high-demand months of July and August. Indonesia overtook China as Singapore’s top source of visitors, contributing 175,601 tourists, while Chinese arrivals dropped to 135,677, down from August’s 214,491. Analysts suggest that China’s economic challenges and rising travel costs contributed to the decline in outbound tourism.
Australia ranked third, with 104,497 visitors in September, followed by Malaysia and India, with 89,384 and 81,014 arrivals, respectively. Despite the seasonal drop, experts predict that Chinese tourism may remain subdued until economic conditions improve.
