Despite Travel Barriers, Siblings Pursue Dream of Building a Premium Yacht in Indonesia

In March 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic forced New York City into lockdown, many Americans returned to their home states to reunite with family. Yet, for some, like fashion designer Jasmine Tabalujan Chong, the journey home proved nearly impossible.

Jasmine, who was born in Malaysia and lived there until she was 15, had moved to Melbourne, Australia, for boarding school. Amid the pandemic’s travel restrictions, returning to Malaysia became a distant dream. Instead, Jasmine and her sibling, alongside their Indonesian partners, redirected their efforts into a new venture — building a luxury yacht in Indonesia.

Their ambitious project showcases a remarkable blend of Southeast Asian craftsmanship and modern luxury, reflecting their passion and determination despite the challenges posed by the global crisis.
