A closer look at Stacked’s hand-kneaded bread and creative sandwiches.
Stacked, the new artisanal sandwich haven that opened on May 4, has caught the attention of food lovers for its unique approach — only 30 sandwiches are made daily. Founded by a group of friends who share a deep passion for sandwiches, Stacked prides itself on using a special in-house recipe for their chewy, hand-kneaded bread, baked fresh every day.
The limited daily production is part of their charm, making these sandwiches a rare find. If you want to get your hands on one, you’ll need to act fast.
We were lucky enough to sample three of their signature flavours: Slutty Eggs, Sassy Seafood, and Mighty Mala, to see if the exclusivity lived up to the hype.
Slutty Eggs ($11):
This cheekily named sandwich turned out to be a delightful surprise. While it looks like a basic egg sandwich, the addition of streaky bacon, Emmental cheese, and a spicy mayo spread takes it to the next level. The chewy, handmade bread provided the perfect foundation, preventing the sandwich from becoming soggy.
Mighty Mala ($13):
For mala lovers, this sandwich is a must-try. Packed with a crispy marinated chicken thigh, veggies, and a mala mayo spread, it delivers a satisfying tongue-tingling sensation from the Sichuan peppercorns. While the chicken thigh was a tad too salty, the sandwich’s concept and the balanced spice level made it enjoyable for those with lower spice tolerances.
Sassy Seafood ($13):
A seafood-focused sandwich featuring minced crab meat, tiger prawns, egg mayo, and vegetables. While the sandwich was tasty, we felt that the seafood components were somewhat overpowered by the creamy egg mayonnaise, which took center stage.
Final Thoughts:
Stacked’s sandwiches are certainly a treat for the discerning eater, though the price might seem steep to some. With only 30 sandwiches made per day, they carry a certain exclusivity, and we found them comparable to other café offerings. Unfortunately, there’s no dine-in option as they operate from a shared cloud kitchen at Stars of Kovan, with only self-pickup or delivery available via Oodle (orders must be placed one day in advance). In the future, they plan to expand to i12 Katong Bistro Bytes, potentially allowing them to make more sandwiches and reach even more sandwich enthusiasts.
