Minister Gan Kim Yong recently highlighted Singapore’s ongoing commitment to supporting various worker groups. He underscored the importance of addressing the needs of youths, caregivers, mature workers, and low-wage workers through targeted policies that promote their well-being and career development.

Gan stressed the significance of ensuring that low-wage workers receive adequate protection and fair wages, while also addressing the specific challenges faced by caregivers balancing professional and personal responsibilities. The goal is to create a workforce that benefits from inclusivity and opportunities for all.

For mature workers, the focus remains on keeping them engaged in meaningful work by providing upskilling and reskilling opportunities. Gan emphasized the necessity of updating skills to meet evolving industry demands, allowing older workers to continue contributing actively to the economy.

In terms of youth employment, Gan noted that younger workers require support as they enter a rapidly changing job market. Providing them with career guidance and opportunities to develop relevant skills remains a priority for long-term growth.

Gan also turned attention to Professionals, Managers, and Executives (PMEs), recognizing their initial achievements but framing them as the foundation for future progress. The goal is to enable PMEs to further excel in leadership roles and drive Singapore’s global economic standing.

He acknowledged that while progress has been made, there are still challenges ahead. Continuous collaboration between the government, businesses, and workers is essential to ensure that every segment of the workforce thrives in Singapore’s dynamic economy.
