The new SJ Campus serves as a hub for sustainable urban development and technological innovation.
Surbana Jurong (SJ) has opened its new global headquarters, SJ Campus, in Singapore’s Jurong Innovation District. This 1.2 million square foot facility is designed to accommodate 4,000 employees, providing a collaborative environment for SJ’s various entities. Originally set for completion in 2021, the campus was delayed due to the pandemic but was finished by the end of 2022.
The campus is situated in CleanTech Park, blending seamlessly with nature. Over half of the greenfield site’s original greenery was preserved, complemented by rooftop gardens and landscaped courtyards. Designed by Safdie Architects, SJ Campus showcases sustainable architectural innovations, such as an inverted pyramid shape that shades lower floors, reducing solar heat by 36%.
Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized the importance of staying at the forefront of urban solutions and innovation, particularly as Singapore continues to invest in research and development focused on sustainability.
The SJ Campus is not just an office space but a “living lab” for testing emerging technologies, such as smart air distribution systems and energy-efficient lighting. These innovations align with Singapore’s push to build resilient and sustainable cities, with six technologies currently being trialed at the site.
