Thales Group expands operations in Singapore, enhancing defense capabilities and job opportunities
Thales Group, a French defense-technology firm, has announced plans to recruit over 1,000 employees in Singapore over the next three years, marking a 50% increase in its workforce. This initiative was revealed by CEO Patrice Caine during a gala dinner celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary in Singapore.
The recruitment drive aligns with Thales’ broader investment strategy aimed at strengthening its presence in Singapore. The recently inaugurated Thales Singapore Defence Hub is set to enhance the company’s long-term defense capabilities in areas such as maintenance, support, operational availability, and indigenous development, catering specifically to the needs of the Singapore Armed Forces.
Additionally, Thales has established an air-traffic management center of excellence in Ayer Rajah Crescent. This facility aims to bolster the development of the air-traffic management sector in Asia, with plans to employ 120 specialists in this field within the next three years.
Thales has also introduced the ScaleFlyt Remote ID, a commercial drone platform developed in Singapore. This innovative system allows drones to communicate essential information, including their location, altitude, and identification, to air traffic controllers and stakeholders. Caine emphasized that this platform will contribute to creating a safe drone ecosystem.
The partnership between Thales and Singapore is further endorsed by the Economic Development Board (EDB), which supports the growth of such technological initiatives. EDB Chairman Png Cheong Boon remarked on the valuable job opportunities generated by Thales’ expanding operations across various sectors, including manufacturing, research and development, and corporate headquarters.
