Transport Minister S Iswaran Takes Leave Amid CPIB Investigation

Investigation Into Allegations of Corruption Prompts Temporary Leave of Absence

Transport Minister S. Iswaran is currently cooperating with the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) in an ongoing investigation, as announced on July 12. Due to the nature of the inquiry, Iswaran will take a leave of absence until the investigation concludes.

The CPIB has not disclosed specific details about the case, acknowledging public interest due to the involvement of a minister. In a statement, the anti-graft agency confirmed that it is investigating matters requiring Iswaran’s testimony.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also issued a statement regarding the situation, confirming that formal investigations began on the same day. He noted that on July 5, the CPIB director briefed him about the case and sought permission to initiate a formal inquiry, which includes interviewing Minister Iswaran along with others.

In Iswaran’s absence, Senior Minister of State Chee Hong Tat will assume the role of acting transport minister. The government agency’s investigation continues to draw public attention as it unfolds.
