34-year-old remains in ICU after sustaining serious head injuries from the incident.
While waiting for a bus to return home from work, a 34-year-old woman named Deng experienced a terrifying accident that left her injured and unconscious on the ground. The incident, which occurred last Thursday (April 14) at a bus stop along Jalan Boon Lay, involved a “flying wheel chock” striking her head, as reported by Shin Min Daily News.
A wheel chock is typically used to prevent vehicles from rolling. Deng’s cousin, Melissa Chow, made an online appeal for witnesses, detailing that the incident likely happened between “12.12 pm and 12.40 pm.” In her post, she described the moment of impact: “My dear cousin was hit and run by a flying wheel chock to the left side of her ear.”
The force of the impact caused Deng to fall to the ground, resulting in injuries to both sides of her face, her ears, eyes, and neck. Chow shared that Deng suffered a head injury and internal bleeding. After two days in the intensive care unit (ICU), she was only able to respond by lifting a finger.
In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, Deng’s older brother revealed that he learned about the accident from her employer. The family hurried to the National University Hospital, where they found her in critical condition. “According to the hospital, my sister was hit by a wheel chock to the head,” he said, adding that Deng also sustained a broken vertebra and additional injuries from the fall.
Following emergency treatment to stabilize her condition, Deng remained unconscious for a full day before regaining consciousness on Friday. Although she has begun to show signs of awareness, she cannot communicate verbally and can only respond by moving her finger.
Deng, who worked as an administrative staff member at a factory near Jalan Boon Lay, was heading home when the accident occurred. Her brother stated that the family is still in the dark about how the incident unfolded. They have filed a police report and visited the scene, but the lack of closed-circuit cameras in the area has complicated their understanding of the event.
“We suspect that the wheel chock must have fallen from a vehicle and ricocheted off the ground, hitting my sister. Since the location is in an industrial area, we couldn’t find any eyewitnesses. Right now, we have many unanswered questions,” he said, expressing his desire for accountability from the driver of the vehicle involved.
“Whether it was intentional or not, the person caused harm to my sister and should bear some responsibility,” he emphasized.
The family is deeply affected by the incident. While Deng’s life is no longer in danger, she is expected to undergo physiotherapy as part of her recovery. It remains uncertain whether she will be able to return to work or resume her normal daily activities.
“My sister is a caring, kind-hearted person, and it has been very hard for the family to see her like this,” her brother lamented.
